    A former Chief Justice (CJ) of the Republic of Ghana, Sophia Akuffo, said she was furious when she linked of her name “Akuffo” to the name of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

    Speaking on UpFront on JoyNews, Sophia Akuffo said when people attach her name to the president “it’s like I don’t have merit or ability, yeah, it upsets me but I don’t let that bother me. ”

    The former chief justice said she felt “annoyed” when people called her a family member of the president to whom she was appointed chief justice.

    The former top judge also spoke about her “ideology”.

    “If you insist on ideology… the ology ology which I thought was outdated after Communism… Maybe I can say I am egalitarian…,”she revealed.

    She said she was first appointed to the Supreme Court directly from private practice by the late former President John Rawlings before President Kufuor appointed her to the African Court and President Akufo-Addo did not. appointed Chief Justice for her. She says she is “everyone’s friend and no one’s enemy”.

    The National Communications Office of the Democratic National Convention accused the Akufo-Addo government personally of running a government of family and friends.

    But President Akufo-Addo says he has only two relatives in his government.

    According to the president, all the allegations against him that he leads a government of family and friends are false. He revealed that one of his family members in his government is Ken Ofori-Atta – Minister of Finance of the Republic of Ghana.

    “Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta is my cousin.” He said and added that Mr. Amoako-Atta, the Minister of Roads was also related to him.
