Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Peter Tenganabang Nanfuri has passed away.
He died at age 80.
The former IGP Peter Nanfuri served as an IGP from 1 October 1996 to 21 January 2001.
He is the supreme leader of the traditional Jirapa region with the title Naa Ansoleh Ganaa II.
Nanfuri was born in Jirapa in the Upper West region. Nanfuri studied at the University of Ghana, Legon, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a bachelor’s degree in law. He held various positions in the Ghana Police Service and was the Director of the National Bureau of Investigation (BNI) in 1986.

In 1996, he was appointed Inspector General of the Ministry of Public Security. At the end of his service as an IGP, he came under heavy pressure due to the mass murder of several women in Ghana.
He was replaced as IGP by former President John Kufuor.
On July 23, 2005, Peter Nanfuri was named the 4th supreme leader of the traditional Jirapa region.
He was publicly introduced to his new role at Naa Yelpoe Park in Jirapa on April 28, 2007.
