A 58-year-old woman was arrested in Koforidua, Eastern Region of Ghana, for allegedly using unhealthy ingredients to make a spicy black pepper sauce, commonly known as shito, for public consumption. plus, was sentenced to prison.
Elizabeth Arthur was given a 21-month deadline by Judge Nana Ama Debrah Finn on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
Initially, the convict was only jailed for one month along with a fine of HUB 4,800 after being convicted despite pleading not guilty.
But because she could not pay the fine, she was detained for another 20 months.
We reported earlier that Elizabeth Arthur was observed collecting rotting ingredients including tomatoes, onions, and ginger zest, among others, from food joints in the community. Then she put the pieces of worms and maggots in a blender to grind them together to make her unhealthy product.
The villagers who had been following her for a long time decided to keep a close eye on her out of curiosity to know what she used the mixed ingredients for.
To their surprise, they discovered that Madame Arthur was selling trash in the form of shit to the people at a popular Kenkey store in Kofofidua.
