    A Ghanaian who was a Catholic priest for 17 years before becoming an Anglican priest, Canon Rev Charles Amankwah told how difficult it was for him to get married and become intimate after living near celibacy. like a lifetime.

    Rev Amankwah recently joined The Standpoint with his wife, Ruth Amankwah, and they shared their marriage story in a delightful interaction with the host, Oheneyere Gifty Anti.

    The couple were married for ten years after the man of God moved from the Catholic Church to the Anglican Church.

    He is currently the Director of Missions for the Diocese and also the Choir Director for St Mary’s Anglican Church in Atechem, Dunkwa-On-Offin in the Central Region.

    Prior to that, he was vicar at Holy Trinity Parish in Agormanya in the East. He was later appointed vicar of the Parish of St Barbara in Akosombo in the Eastern Region.

    It is known that Pastor Amankwah decided to leave the Catholic Church because he had established a prayer ministry and his activities were not in accordance with the teachings of the church.

    When he decided to get married after leaving the Catholic Church, he said it was difficult to express his love for Ruth, a teacher and mother of three, so his father had to flirt she gave him.

    “Proposal was difficult. I couldn’t propose to my wife, it was my father who proposed to Ruth for me,” Rev Amankwah recalled.

    The couple said they weren’t intimate until their marriage, which is now nine years old and still growing.

    Just as Pastor Amankwah had a hard time expressing his love to Ruth, he said when it comes to intimacy it’s hard and the first night was remarkable.

    “My first night as a married man was not easy. I just couldn’t imagine going naked before my wife. I had to pray to muster the courage to have canal knowledge of my wife. And since then, anytime we’re going to have an affair, I pray before the act,” he disclosed.

    While in the Catholic Church, Cape Coast Metropolitan Archbishop Charles Palmer-Buckle mentored him during his early years.

    Pastor Amankwah is the author of many books, including ‘God is not done with you’, his 15th book is due out this month.

    He holds a Master’s degree in Religious and Pastoral Education from the Catholic University of Ghana, Sunyani, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast and a degree in Theology from the University of Ghana, Legon.
