Former minority leader Haruna Iddrisu turned down his new seat in parliament after he was removed from the position of caucus leader by the leaders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Tamale South MP had been offered a seat previously held by Asutifi South MP Collins Dauda but said he could not accept a seat belonging to his senior citizen in the legislative chamber.

The former leader whose impeachment has sparked controversy among his colleagues had to enter business in the House of Representatives on Thursday from the seat of First Vice President Joseph Osei-Owusu of the majority.
“I have to assume your chair [sic] there was whether I should take over from Honourable Collins Duada or yours,” he told Osei-Owusu, who was then presiding, when it was his turn to make a submission in the House. “And I told them that Honourable Collins Dauda is senior by age even to this House. I will not sit in his chair as somebody who is well trained from home.”
“So, any other chair will be accepted by me. Mr. Speaker, I am still the elected Member of Parliament for the people of Tamale South, I thank you,” Haruna Iddrisu added.

According to him, like the rest of the NDC parliamentary caucus, he has no say in the decision.

Speaking in his first interview following the announcement on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, he said he was surprised by the decision after being briefed by the party’s national leader during a face-to-face meeting.
According to Dr Forson, he was honored to have been chosen to fill the “really big shoe” of his predecessor.
He said while he has “never wished for his job” he takes the appointment as an opportunity to “also step in and to lead the party.”
