The Deputy Communication Officer of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Brong Ahafo Region, Mr Eric Adjei has questioned the rationale behind the appointment of Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir Hammond as Trade and Industry Minister to replace Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen who resigned to campaign for his presidential ambition.
To him, the appointment of KT Hammond will amount to nothing better, adding that, he carries coconut head with empty power to make critical decisions.
He said KT Hammond’s appointment will amount to zero achievement as he has passed the stage of thinking properly for growth and development.
“KT Hammond is heading to that Trade Ministry with his coconut head. He said Ghanaian youths are carrying coconut heads. He’s having the same head – nothing better will be achieved out of it. What is he bringing on board?” he asked on UTV morning show.
The ministerial change is a result of President Akufo-Addo’s nominations of four new ministers, two promotions from deputy minister to minister of state, and one deputy ministerial shuffle.
Dr. Stephen Amoah, a.k.a. “Sticka,” a former CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre and a member of parliament for Nhyiaeso in Kumasi, was named by the president for the position of deputy minister for the trade and industry sector (MASLOC).
The number of nominations which consist of – K.T. Hammond, Dr Stephen Amoah, Bryan Acheampong and Stephen Asamoah Boateng – and two elevations to the position of Minister of State from deputy ministers – O.B. Amoah, MP for Akwapim South and Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, MP for Karaga and one deputy ministerial reshuffle – Herbert Krapah from Trade to Energy are submitted to Parliament for vetting and endorsement.
Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi in the Eastern Region appointment follows the resignation of Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto at the Food and Agriculture Ministry earlier 2023 to also concentrate on his presidential ambition.
