The chronology of Dr. Cassiel Ato Fosrson’s promotion to Minority Leader, according to Cletus Apul Avoka, Member of Parliament for Zebilla East, is incorrect. Ato Fosrson represents the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam constituency.
According to the former majority leader, the party does not have the luxury of time to transform a nobody into someone, but must instead concentrate on uniting the party to oust the New Patriotic Party from office.
“This is not the time to make nobody a somebody, this is not the time to make nobody a somebody, this is the time to galvanise all of us to fight the NPP so that we can win elections not to make heroes out of nonentities, this is not the time,”
His remarks follow the party’s choice of Cassiel Ato Forson, the MP for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, to succeed Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu. The party also chose Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as the MP for Ellembelle in place of James Klutse Avedzi, the deputy minority leader.
Despite criticism from its own members, the NDC has defended the change in its leadership in Parliament. The party claimed that the choice is appropriate and serves collective interests more so than individual ones.
“This decision was taken after wide consultation. If you look at the apex leadership of the party, that consultation was done. In terms of parliamentary, the group that is widely consulted, that consultation has been done.”
