A relationship Counsellor, Rev. D.Y. Donkor has advised married couples and those yet planning to marry to avoid addressing certain important issues in their relationship through text and Whatsapp messages.

According to him, Whatsapp discussions can be miscommunicated, and should be avoided when sensitive issues are needed to be discussed.

“We don’t handle issues that are sensitive by texting. It’s a wrong approach. Through SMS and Whatsapp messages, you can miscommunicate or someone can interpret the words you are communicating by writing. Miscommunication can be transported through writing. We talk about important conversations face to face, one on one so that if I don’t understand something, explanation can be give well. If you want to build a successful relationship, don’t have important conversation through SMS and Whatsapp” he said.

During difficult times in marriage, Counsellor D.Y.Donkor indicated that partners should never bring up mistakes of the past.

He added, “Never bring up mistakes of the past. During your relationship, anything that happens, you bring up past issues, referencing it to past issues. Ten and 20 years issues – ladies are more in this practice but it’s a wrong move. When you keep referring to past issues, it doesn’t end the pains. Never bring up mistakes of the past – it doesn’t help.

“Fix any small problems before it becomes big. Anytime small problem happen during courtship or marriage, fix it before it becomes big. Any marriage which is not working well is because courtship wasn’t done well. Unresolved problems in courtship turn out to be big deal in marriage. Solve those kind of small small issues before it becomes big issues. Many of the big problems in marriage were overlooked during dating period or courtship. If you want to have a good, healthy relationship, fix any small problem as early as possible.”

Counselor D.Y Donkoh is a professional marriage counselor, motivational speaker, and philanthropist, head pastor of Royal Believers Ministry(Wisdom Palace). He has been to almost all the reputable TV stations and radio stations in Ghana.
