Staff members are unsure of their futures at Vodafone Ghana as Telecel plans to acquire the company.
Following the NCA’s communication on selling Vodafone to Telecel, a Few employees of Vodafone Ghana came out to voice their concerns about what can happen if another takes over the company. Making a reference to what happened to their friends, who were laid off from their past experience with the company.
“For me, I’m happy that we will have new management for the company, and we may see a turnaround, but I can’t be sure of how my job will be sustained. We know what happened during the takeover of Ghana Telecom which resulted in some of our friends going home”, a staff said.
“We just need some form of investments to turn around the company and I think the potential is there. We shouldn’t sell the company that is the second largest telco in the country to a new company. Now, we don’t know how Ghanaians will react to this new network”, the staff lamented.
Last Monday, the National Communications Authority (NCA) gave the transfer of the 70% majority of the shares in Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited (Vodafone Ghana) to Telecel Group conditional clearance.
This is contingent on Vodafone making amends and Telecel Group addressing NCA concerns. Vodafone Ghana’s 70% ownership was held by Vodafone International Holdings B.V.
The NCA reassured the general public and all stakeholders in a statement that it would continue to cooperate with Vodafone Ghana and Telecel to finish all outstanding regulatory requirements in order to ensure a smooth transition, continuity of service delivery, improved consumer choice, and industry competition. As was previously said, in January.
