After the local youth gathered at the Damongo Police station to demand the release of eight people detained for allegedly setting some Fulanis’ homes on fire, one person was shot in Buipe.
Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II requested the police to apprehend the criminals, and they responded by making the arrest.
The Gonja Land Youth Association is leading the youth of Buipe in their protest against the appointment of a Fulani chief to Mande, a Buipe suburb.
The appointment of Fuseini Musah Buri as the Fulani leader in Mande angered the youth of Buipe.
Since then, the enskinment has been undone by the overlord of Buipe.
After they allegedly destroyed some residences and delivered them to the Damongo Authorities station, the police detained about eight persons.
But angry youngsters in Buipe surrounded the police station and besieged it, demanding the freedom of their fellow students.
The police fired warning bullets at the kids in an effort to scatter them, hitting one of them in the process.
For medical attention, the injured person has been taken to a hospital.
The attack took place closer to the Buipe police station, which houses the Fulani chief’s dwelling, according to an eyewitness who witnessed the occurrence and corroborated it.
“The youth of Buipe as part of their grand agenda to disrespect the authority of the Buipewura is doing a lot to create a false sense of insecurity and to make Buipe ungovernable. They hired a woman to set up the Fulani chief of Mande to make him look bad in the eyes of the good people of Buipe. The Fulani chief saw through their malign plans and reported the woman to the police. When the police invited the woman for questioning, the youth stormed the police station to demand her acquittal”.
According to the eyewitness, the chief was nearly lynched by the angry youth.
“After destroying his house, the youth chased the chief in front of the station. He was saved because of his car” the eyewitness added.
