Despite assurances from President Akufo-Addo to families, friends of Ahmed Suale and the media fraternity of his resolve to find the killers of the investigative journalist, it has not seen the reality yet after 4 years of his death.
At Madina in Accra in January 2019, some unidentified assailants shot and killed Ahmed Saule.
He served as the Tiger Eye PI team’s chief investigator for the Number 12 investigation into football corruption in Ghana.
Police have not made any arrests in connection with the murder and have not finished their investigations four years after his death.
A broad swath of the public claimed that his involvement in the Number 12 exposé, which led to the downfall of the Ghana Football Association and its then-president Kwesi Nyantakyi, was connected to his murder.
In the wake of the #Number12 exposé, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong revealed the identity of Ahmed Suale on live television, claiming that he was evil and required to be beaten.
Later, Mr. Agyapong denied ever being involved in Ahmed Suale’s demise.
The family of the murdered investigator has voiced their dissatisfaction with the authorities and security services over their inability to catch his killers.
Years after the tragedy, the family claims that Ahmed’s murder has not received much attention.
The President addressing journalists at a dinner organized by the Ghana Journalists Association in Accra last year (2022) said as far as he remains in office, the perpetrators of the heinous crime will be brought to book.
“I continue to be deeply regretful that despite the unseasoned best effort of the police, the perpetrators of the murder of Ahmed Suale can still not be found. But I assure you that, so far as I remain President, the dossier cannot be closed until they are brought to justice.”
Anas Aremeyaw Anas remembering the 4 years demise in a social media post said “we continue to fight for Justice for Ahmed”.
“How Ahmed Was Murdered 4 years ago. Today marks 4 years since the assassination of Ahmed Suale. This is how Ahmed was murdered on 16th January 2019. Some of you have seen it, others may not have. Rest in Power Soldier. We continue to fight🙏 #Justice4Ahmed #SayNoToCorruption #JournalismIsNotACrime” his post reads.
